ABOUT ME

Kate Barnes, Registered AASW Social Worker. BSW, MCAW, MPP, Grad. Dip. Psych., Grad. Dip. Psych (Advanced), Dip. YW, Dip. L&M, GCDT.

My name is Kate, and I am a qualified Social Worker in Port Broughton, South Australia. I am a registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Member Number: 434167. I am also now registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra), Member Number: PSY0002688892). **please note** private practice currently only offering Social Work services while completing psychologist 5+1 internship.

 

With approximately 20+ years’ experience in working with children, families and communities in child protection, youth justice, mental health and educational fields. 

 Qualifications: 

  • Master of Professional Psychology, Monash University.Graduate Diploma in Psychology, Monash University. 

  • Graduate Diploma in Psychology Advanced, Monash University.

  • Masters of Child and Adolescent Welfare (MCAW), Charles Sturt University.  

  • Diploma of Leadership and Management, DECD. 

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Monash University.

  • Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma, Australian Childhood Foundation.

  • Diploma of Youth Work, TAFESA.

  • Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Member No. 434167. Member since November 2010. Currently practicing as SW in private practice.

 Social workers work with individuals, families, groups and communities in the context of their physical, social and cultural environments, their past and current experiences, and their cultural and belief systems. In all contexts, social workers maintain a dual focus on both assisting with and improving human well-being and identifying and addressing any external issues (known as system or structural issues) that may impact on well-being or may create inequality, injustice and discrimination. 

What can a Social Worker help me with?

I am currently registered to practice as a Psychologist (Provisional) with SA Health only through my internship. However, I am still offereing social work services on negotiation with consumers across the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula via Telehealth or face-to-face. I am also actively working as Reg 7 Family Consultant in Rural and Remote South Australia.
